New Student Orientation: Anticipating Transformation

August in Philadelphia saw EMTM orientation, a chance for new students to get an all-encompassing preview of the academic demands, powerful social network and career opportunities that lie ahead. "Orientation was brilliant—having that kind of immersion in so many aspects of the program really got our brains activated," says Niten Lalpuria, a senior engineer at Abbott Laboratories in Princeton, NJ. "At the same time, it was a great chance to start networking and building relationships." For his part, David Horowitz came away knowing that he had made the right decision to enroll in EMTM at this point in his career. "Orientation was a wonderful experience. It made me eager to return to campus and it made me feel excited about the next few years of my academic and professional life."

EMTM VIPs Launch Exciting Initiatives

The Wharton Venture Initiation Program (VIP) gives University of Pennsylvania students the opportunity to bring a business idea to fruition through the help of seasoned advisers, educational programs and networking sessions, and EMTM students are using this invaluable resource to launch innovative new enterprises. Dan Hughes '11, Brendan McCorkle '11 and Michael Crossey '12 are behind four exciting projects chosen for this competitive program last fall. EMTM's Transformative Impact:
Market-Driven, Technology-Enabled

Graduates of EMTM point to the program's transformative impact on careers across a surprising range of careers. This was a recurrent theme in conversations with alumni in leadership roles at a pharmaceutical start-up, baby food manufacturer, gaming company and global technology corporation. Eugene Ford, EMTM'92, credits EMTM with helping him "become an advocate and leader for technology acceleration and development" in his company. Ana Pinczuk, EMTM'99, selected EMTM over Wharton because she didn't see herself "going to Wall Street or being a consultant. EMTM's technology foundation fit me better."
